Mold in the winter

Mold in the winter

It's holiday season and it's time, it's time to bring Christmas trees out of the attic, not mold. Not many people realize that trees and Christmas decorations are more likely to carry mold.

Check for mold on Christmas Decorations:

Decorating Without Mold

  1. Clean mold and pollen or hose off tree with water before bringing in house (real tree)
  2. Wipe down the trunk of the tree with a solution of 1-part bleach, 20 parts lukewarm water (real tree)
  3. Wipe off ornaments
  4. Reduce the amount of spray snow to frost your tree and windows. Aerosolized chemicals can cause irritant reactions in the eyes, nose or lungs.

Storing to Prevent Mold

  1. Pack decorations in plastic bins instead of cardboard (mold and dust tend to stick on cardboard)
  2. Store tree in a cool and dry place
